Should I Get Another Dog?

MultiDog4.jpg

Thinking about getting a second (or third!) dog? 🐶🐶🐶  A few things to consider before taking the plunge:

✅Get the dog because you want the dog, not because your current dog wants the dog. You’re the one who will be paying for the dog and caring for the dog. If you weren't totally on board with it in the first place, any problems will feel more painful.

✅Two dogs take more training than just one. You have to teach the same thing twice, and then reteach it with the non-working dog as a distraction. Plus, you’ve got to teach the non-working dog how to mind his own business while you’re working the other dog.

✅Dogs learn through mimicry. Your current dog can easily influence your new dog and vice versa.

If your current dog barks like crazy when the doorbell rings, but you don’t want your new dog to do that, both dogs will need training.

✅If your current dog has separation anxiety, a friend won’t necessarily help. It might, but there are no guarantees.

✅If your current dog is high energy, it's not necessarily a good idea to give him a second dog to play with all the time. High energy might actually be poor social skills.
